Strengthen administrative support systems and cultivate a more unified team approach, ensuring that all staff members feel valued and that communication between corrections and patrol is seamless and collaborative.
Explore creative collaboration with the Corrections Guild by proposing that patrol deputies cover open shifts in Corrections when possible. This approach would allow Corrections staff to utilize their paid time off (PTO) and help lower mandatory overtime.
Set up a Sheriff’s Correction/Patrol response team and train for handling violent incidents in the jail.
Work with the Prosecutor’s Office and Courts to bring back the drug enforcement compliance deputy, which was helpful for participant check-ins.
Add a K9 deputy trained to find drugs and contraband, who could also help in schools. This idea came from Centralia PD/JNET Tracy Murphy.
Look to reinstate contracts with local police departments.
